Doug Shoun and I are on our bikes and ready to depart
this beautiful morning. Today will be Doug's second day on the road
as he travelled from Charlotte, NC yesterday (Saturday).
Does anyone but me find the name of this restaurant
amusing? It looked neat and new, but we did not see any patrons.
Grenada, MS.
Camping. Doug's idea. So far so good. We KOA Campground in
Denham Springs, Louisiana. It has all of the amenities,
including camp side WiFi and a pool. Bath facilities are near our camping spot.
We were the only tent campers, and only motorcyclist.
Day One. All is well.
We travelled south and west.
Today we travelled more miles than we expect to travel on a "normal" day. It just felt right getting as far away from familiar territory as quickly as possible. We did that/ 473 miles total today. We left home around 8:00 CDT, and we arrived at the KOA Campground in Denham Springs, Louisiana just after 4:00 p.m..
Today we traveled by interstate for most of the route, and we made good time because of it.
The weather was moderate. It started out in the low 70's and I saw as high temperature reading of 84 on the bike en route. We ran into rain 20 miles north of Brookhaven, Mississippi. I was in the lead and I did not consider how heavy the rain might be, so I did not stop, and we rode right into a torrential downpour. Before we could get beneath an overpass we were both soaked. We both have very good rain suits for this purpose, but they are not very useful in the saddlebags. Making bad decisions often have repercussions. Being wet when the temperature drops to 69 degrees, and on motorcycle is the price paid. But we dried quickly, and our delay was less than an hour.
There is a Bass Pro Shop within one mile of KOA. But, it closed before we could get through the doors. Tomorrow.
The distance travelled did not leave much time for anything but riding. Tomorrow will be less riding.
A good day.
