Day Nine - June 09, 2014

It was an overcast day at San Diego South Beach today,

and there were few people present early.

The shops were quiet.

So Doug sat, forlorn.....

contemplating his youth . . .or something....

Day Nine.  Overnight in San Diego.  All is well.

We left our motel room early and made our way to a local restaurant for a quick breakfast.  After eating we went to San Diego's South Beach, where we got our first view of the ocean since our arrival yesterday.  We were there early, and there was little activity, so we walked the walkway (concrete - not wooden) for a very long way, and then found our way back.

We had the good fortune of meeting a local gentleman with whom we spent some time, to include lunch at a local restaurant on the beach that was known for its fish tacos and micro brewery.  Doug and I tried the fish tacos, and Doug had a couple beers, which he reported as being excellent.

Our time spent with Mr. L. was a highlight.  He shared many things about living in the area, local, state, and national politics, from his view, and many other topics.  Mr. L. was born and raised in Hickory, North Carolina, but he is a long-time resident of California.

After leaving South Beach we found our way back to I-8 and back to our hotel, where we found time to take care of some individual personal necessities, going in generally different directions for much of the afternoon.

We later had dinner at a local restaurant that was within walking distance of the motel.

The weather was nice all day, in spite of my comments about the morning at the beach being overcast.  At the beach, while we were there, the temperature was in the mid 60's.  Inland, where we found ourselves for much of the afternoon the temperature was in the mid 70's, which was also pleasant.

Another good day.
